Don’t Be a Tool
The Balayage Summit
Recently I was in two situations that gave my confidence a little shake.
My friend noticed that the haircutting combs I use are the cheap plastic ones with the ruler. “You still use those?!” She meant absolutely no harm. But I wondered for a moment, “What combs am I supposed to be using? What is everyone else using?”.
“The Balayage Summit” was a huge success and we can’t thank the 130+ attendees enough for joining in this vision! This was a 2 day hands on balayage and blonding summit where we taught all the latest balayage and blonding techniques, in partnership with The American Board of Certified Haircolorists .
How and why to go from stylist to educator:
Hello Beautiful Beauty pros, India Dunn for House of Collaboration here.
And any time I can get a message out to you about how powerFULL you are and how important you are to the communities you serve is an honor and privilege. As a contribution to this awesome platform I will hope this feels like information you can take and apply to your life behind the chair, on the stage and in the salon in real time.
The Beauty of Being Board Certified
Have you found yourself working behind the chair and another stylist approaches you with a color question? Do you get a sense of joy and accomplishment when you can help out a fellow stylist? Have you been in a class and you felt like you wanted to jump in and teach it yourself lol?! Do you love watching new professionals grow? Then it might time to focus your time and energy on educating.
Success by Association
When is the last time you took a haircolor class and learned about more than a product line? The lack of “pure” education is a common colorist complaint, but the American Board of Certified Hair colorists (ABCH) has long offered brand-neutral education plus credible, standardized certification. That’s just one of the reasons I’m a raving fan!
Steal Like An Artist
Most associations simply require you sign up and pay your dues. But the best ones, like Intercoiffure, require that you prove yourself. If telling the most successful salon owners in the U.S. and Canada about your business goals and showing them your artistic work scares you, don’t let it! You’ll be missing out on the latest trends, impeccable work, stunning stage presentations, real help growing your business and a slew of like-minded friends.
The growth you experience isn’t just for you

Year End Tax Planning
Any growth individually is growth for our entire industry. It’s important to Remember that when we see the stylist next to us building a full clientele , the educator getting the sponsorship contracts we thought we wanted, the salon owner filling her stations before us.
But have you ever thought of our industry as a whole ? How clients perceive us? How future stylists see us ?
It’s the end of 2017 and you have likely heard about all the tax reform changes being discussed on every website and news outlet. My name is Chris de Lorimier and I am an Enrolled Agent licensed by the IRS Department of Treasury, and I also have an MBA in Financial Planning. Most people aren’t familiar with the Enrolled Agent designation, but we are like CPAs. Some (not all) CPAs do taxes, but all Enrolled Agents are experts in tax. CPAs are licensed by their state’s Board of Accountancy, and Enrolled Agents are federally licensed by the IRS’ Department of Treasury.
